Clubs

At the Aurora Skate Center, the management and ownership take the concept of "community resource" very seriously. Among the many channels available to skaters are several avenues to express competitive instincts and competitive drive. There are avenues available to each temperament and each physical activity style preference within the world of roller skating to satisfy each person's personal quest toward discovery and enthusiastic learning.

Think of the options available to each of you:

  • Figure Skating:  the "Science" of skating. Strength, balance, and aerobics are among the primary benefits of figure skating. Options include: Men's and Women's Figures, Team and Solo Dance, Free Style and Pairs.
  • Speed Skating:  the wind and dream flyers of our sport.  Strength, endurance, and aerobics (the feeling of flying) are among the primary benefits of speed skating.
  • Women's Roller Derby: the Aurora Roller Skating Center hosts its own, young, and developing Women's Roller Derby league.  At this time, women's derby hosts practice sessions on Tuesday and Sunday night starting after the last activity. See the "Daily Calendar" for updates on each of those days. Practice Sessions are closed; by invitation only.
  • Roller Hockey: There is no Hockey team at the Aurora Skate enter. Please call the rink and we will tell you of any skating venues that host roller hockey.
  • Recreation Skating: many opportunities occur each weekend in the greater Chicago area for recreational skaters. Our Monday night "Organ/Dance" session with Frank Pellico (the organist for the Chicago Blackhawks) is the perfect venue for adult skaters wishing to retain or regain their physical stamina and balance.

Directions

Directions to Aurora Skate Center

GPS: Use the intersection of Hill Ave. and Montgomery Road (in that order).  The issue is, our address is an unincorporated number and GPS' can not register it correctly.

The following driving directions assume the reader is familiar with the main roads and understands that they are generalized directions. For detailed directions feel free to contact us via phone or email. Use the "Maps/Directions" button on the left for a Google Map link. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Directions coming from the North (Aurora Northside, North Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, etc..)

The most direct route is to make your way to Kirk/Farnsworth Rd., then head south. Drive exactly 4.5 miles south of I-88 until you get to Montgomery Rd. (T intersection). Turn right/west and we are on the left (south side), just before the light. We share the parking lot with Parkside Lanes. Old-timers will remember the Hi-Lite Drive-In theater which was directly across the street.

Galena Blvd. is the best route through downtown Aurora if you come via Rt. 31 or 25. Take Galena south through Aurora. After coming up the long hill (a one-way street), Galena eventually bears to the right and becomes Hill Ave. Take Hill Ave. to the light (Montgomery Rd.) at the end of the golf course on your right. Look to the left at the intersection and you will see the parking lot shared by Parkside Lanes (a brick building) and Aurora Skate Center (a white building with a black domed roof).

Directions Coming from the South (Plainfield, Southern Naperville, South Aurora, South Oswego, etc...)

If you live in the Plainfield/Joliet area, southern Naperville, or in the southern portions of Aurora or Oswego with access to Route 30, make your way to Rt 30 and head North. Do not turn left or right at Ogden (30/34). Simply go North one more interval to the light at Montgomery Road (on what is now called Hill Ave./Bus. 30, past the white sports dome/bubble). You will see farm land on both sides of the road and as you approach the light you will see a brick building on the right corner, which is Parkside Lanes. We share the parking lot with Parkside Lanes. We are the white building with the black domed roof.

Directions Coming from the East (Naperville, Far East Aurora, Lisle, etc...)

The most direct route is to take Rt. 34 (Ogden) or 75th St. west.

From Ogden: From Rt. 59, count seven traffic lights (the sixth light is Eola and Waubonsie Valley High School), then turn right (North) at Montgomery Rd. We are on the left, just before the second light.

From 75th St: Go one light west of Rt. 59 (where 75th Ts at Ogden), then turn left (West). Count four traffic lights (the third light is Eola and Waubonsie Valley High School), then turn right (North) at Montgomery Rd. We are on the left, just before the second light.

From northern Aurora/Naperville: Take Eola south to McCoy (the first light past New York Ave.), turn right. Take McCoy west to Kautz (just where McCoy changes from 4 to 2 lanes), turn left. Kautz will T-stop at Montgomery Road, turn right. We are on the left, just before the second light.

Directions Coming from the West (Oswego, Yorkville, Plano, etc...)

If you live in the western area. (Oswego, Yorkville, Bristol, Plano, Sandwich, Sugar Grove, etc.), the most direct route is to make your way east on Rt. 30 or 34. When 30 and 34 meet (look for the Shell gas station), go to the next light (Ogden/Hill Shopping Center) and turn left (North). (That intersection is where Rt. 30 turns South.) Turning left (North) onto Hill Ave./Bus. 30 you will see the white sports dome/bubble on your right. The second light is at Montgomery Rd. You will see farm land on both sides of the road and as you approach the light you will see a brick building on the right corner, which is Parkside Lanes. We share the parking lot with Parkside Lanes. We are the white building with the black domed roof.

Lessons

There are several good reasons to take private lessons. But before exploring them, here's a question that you might want to answer first. "Are you sure that a class wouldn't give you what you want?" Classes are much less expensive, you will be in the company of others who share your interests, and you may discover that attending classes fits your needs adequately.

If your answer to the above is a variation of, "I want more," then please do consider private lessons. Personally, I took lessons from excellent coaches for several years and I have taught private lessons well over 20 years. Nothing is more stimulating than taking a lesson and discovering that you are, in fact, a better skater! For more insight and suggestions, please read the article I wrote some time ago.

Private lessons can assist you if, among many reasons, you are interested in:

  1. Skating safely on inline or quad skates
  2. Skating the dance sets during the sessions
  3. Taking speed or figure skating tests using the Achievement Test Program to measure your improvement
  4. Testing yourself in the competitive arena in roller (speed or figure) skating.

For more information call Dan Warner at the Aurora Skate Center (630-898-5830) or Roger Wampach, our Head Pro, (630) 404-2670 and we'll be happy to discuss private lessons with you and, if you wish, introduce you to our certified coaches.
